Internationalization, Globalisation: China’s Vulnerability

China’s imminent acceptance as a full member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) has generated tremendous enthusiasm in Chinese media and political circles. However, lurking in the shadows behind the well-publicized raft of benefits that China’s entry into the global community are expected to bring, there is a palpable uneasiness, even intrepedation, as the inevitable draws nearer. The recent US surveillance aircraft grounding incident and the subsequent hostile posturing by the US Ambassador to China, and President Bush, has cast an additional shadow on a well-deserved reward for two decades of carefully planned reform of the Chinese economy.
